one of the ten things i hate about singaporeans

July 7, 2008 at 11:09 pm (news, ramblings, sports, wtf?) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

First off, let me say that I’m a Singaporean – a 21 year old male who has completed his national service last year.

Like most of my mates in unit, I resented the 2 years spent in my camp at desolate Lim Chu Kang.

Unlike most of them, the patriot in me still felt it was necessary as much as my hatred for this unwanted conscription burned.

Simply put, we do this to protect the things important to us.

However, there are times when I question why the heck am I putting in the effort to protect some of the idiots on this island.

Yesterday was one of those instances.

april fool’s day

April 1, 2008 at 10:17 pm (news, ramblings, wtf?) (, , , , , , , )

Today, I met up with my JC classmates Swee and Ten to renew our passports for the upcoming Thailand trip in June, as well as to do our pre-university medical examination at the same time. Turns out my passport is already 10 years old so I would have to apply for a brand new one which costs a whopping 70 bucks!

I actually thought the clerk at the desk was pulling a fast one on me considering the date today and all, but upon further consideration I decided that this civil servant couldn’t give a shit whether today was the end of the world or not with that face of his -_-”

Thankfully, the staff at NUS were considerably more friendly to us prospective students and the whole medical exam went without a hitch. We took some time off while waiting for the X-ray to survey our future campus grounds and for some reason I thought the buildings were a tad old, but I guess I can’t complain too much with only 3 universities on the island at the moment.

I’m actually one of the rare few among my friends going for the Special Term which starts earlier in May as compared to the normal semester in August, so it looks like I’ll be getting quite familiar with the place come one and a half months time ^^;

As you’d probably notice by now, nothing really amusing happened on the first of April in my life so I was sadly left to my own devices to look for something to enrich my day.

So, I went to the Internet (where else? ^^;) and I found that there was nothing short of April Fool’s pranks and gags on the world wide web. It seems that everyone’s trying their best to create the most elaborate schemes to prey upon the unwitting minds of the average surfer.

And when I thought I’ve seen it all, I stumble upon this cracker of a news :

No Picnic: Man Charged With Screwing a Patio Table

Police in Ohio say that a married father of three has confessed to repeatedly having sex with his patio picnic table.

Art Price, Jr., 40, has been charged with four counts of public indecency after a neighbor videotaped him getting all nasty with the umbrella hole in the middle of his plastic picnic table. Apparently preferring the table’s legs in the air, Price reportedly flipped the table over before forcing himself inside of it.

Price admitted that his skeevy antics took place both inside and outside of his home, and police say he did his table humping in broad daylight, not far from a school.

In addition to public outrage, we imagine there’s considerable jealousy among Price’s other lawn furniture. While barbecues and lawn chairs don’t have many places for good loving (unless you’re big enough for that drink holder), we’re sure that plastic gnome hiding in the hedges is wondering why he wasn’t chosen. The garden hose, however, is probably pretty relieved.

It’s things like these which make you think life isn’t so dull anymore. Not.

water tennis

March 27, 2008 at 8:09 am (news, ramblings, sports, wtf?) (, , , )

Ever since my brother went for his obligatory 2 year National Service term, I’ve been lamenting the lack of a tennis partner during my holidays. Of course, this only happens when I’m not too lazy myself ^^;

So, what does this have to do with a picture of the world no.2 tennis player Rafael Nadal doing a delicate balancing act on water? Nothing of course – except for the fact thats it on bloody water!

Sony Ericsson Open Unveils World’s First Game of Tennis on Water

I simply cannot imagine how the game was played out. From my experience of playing tennis in the rain (don’t ask -_-“), the ball would soak up all the water and its ability to bounce would be close to zilch.

Just leave it to the creative brains of Sony Ericsson to come up with something as outrageous as this..

torrential tardiness

March 6, 2008 at 12:40 pm (news, ramblings, sports, wtf?) (, , , , , , , )

I woke up to a very wet morning today, and for once it was still raining when I was trying to get to work on time.

For some unfathomable reason, it’s been raining every single day of the week since March started. For convenience sake, I’d put the blame on global warming because I’m too darn lazy to think of a logical reason while evading puddles of water on the way to the office.

To my credit, I got there only 5 minutes late. On the other hand, my colleague didn’t fare too well since his bus was moving as fast as an aging AC Milan player during their last night’s incredible loss at home to Arsenal in the Champions League.

But I digress.

At least he didn’t try to land a plane in town, since he would most likely be mistaken as Mas Selamat and shot down by the RSAF, unlike this fellow below :

Man lands plane on golf course so son wouldn’t be late for tennis lesson

Police might arrest an Illinois man who landed his plane on a golf course so his son wouldn’t be late for a tennis lesson. Police came to the Marriott Resort Crane’s Landing Golf Course, at 10 Marriott Dr. in Lincolnshire, around 1:50 p.m. Saturday for a call that a plane had landed on the course.

Robert Kadera of Lake Villa and his 14-year-old son, Isaac, were standing outside the aircraft, a 1949 Piper Clipper, which was sitting in the middle of the golf course about 20 feet south of the retaining wall that separates the golf course from Route 22, police said.

Kadera said it was not an emergency landing, but rather, the boy was late for his tennis lesson at the Lincolnshire Club across the street from the golf course on Route 22, police said.

I think he would have better luck if he tried a helicopter. Bummer.

godzilla sticky men

January 28, 2008 at 12:43 pm (jap, Uncategorized, videos, wow, wtf?) (, , )

I’m sure anyone who has walked along Orchard Road recently has seen them – peddlers selling a basket full of ‘sticky man’ toys. Well, today I just found out they are actually called Wacky WallWalkers (the power of wikipedia ^^;), but thats besides the point. The thing is, some wacky Japanese actually recreated a live-sized sticky man and let it loose on a building. Unsurprisingly, the results are hilarious, even if they aren’t too successful to begin with but who cares anyway? XD

To be perfectly honest, I much preferred the 1st clip where it made a hole in the roof ^^;
