It’s amazing what anime can do sometimes.

Yeah sure, people do say they are for kids, pedophiles, perverts and what have you all the time, but I dare say that those people are the ones that have not watched a great show to change their stereotypes yet.

Well, at least for me it sure helps to raise my spirits when needed ^^;

I’ve just got back from my week-long break in Thailand two days ago and decided to keep the rest of the week free to rest and slack about before resuming work at Singapore Pools.

That also means more time to manage West Ham in FM2008, as well as to catch up on all the unwatched anime on my HDD ^^;

shinkurou & murasaki

Speaking of which, I just finished watching the last two episodes of kure-nai which was a series I thought was really worth mentioning.

Seems like lots of stuff has happened since the last time I posted – namely cyclone Nargis in Myanmar followed by the devastating earthquake in China. Totally different responses by their respective governments too, but I’m gonna leave the political analysis to the newspapers for now.

For news closer to home, I’ve just ended my 3rd week of my Principle of Economics course (3 more weeks to exams and to Krabi!) while enjoying my weekly doses of anime with my picks being Kurenai, Code Geass and Macross Frontier for this season. And oh yeah, Manchester United won the Champions League in the early morning of May 22.

YEAH, WE WON!!!!!!! XD

Ok ok, so it’s like almost a week since the final so why the heck am I writing about it now? For one, I was too emotionally drained after the epic match to press the power button on my CPU so I went to bed. What a match. Both sides were soooo close, I almost felt the urge to pity John Terry. Almost.

Yeah, Chelsea fans would probably tear me a new one after seeing this video but it’s just as well I have no friends that support Chelski so far ^^; To be fair, Chelsea had their own share of injury problems at the start of the season before they started grinding out their routine wins which pushed Man Utd all the way in the title race. Their players are definite quality and their consistency is nothing to snuff at, but I can only say that in the end, the right team won.

Flowing attacking football that resulted in a superior goal difference? Check.

Unbeaten in Europe on the tougher road to the final? Check.

Enough said.

Of course, things could have played out very differently during the game with each side dominating either half and goal-line clearances as well as woodwork strikes were aplenty. On the other hand, I have the fortune of retrospect and I am satisfied that the team with the attacking ethos (Nou Camp aside) won the double ^^;

So now that the club football season is over, what’s left to do?

Well, wait impatiently for the next season while digesting all the latest transfer gossips of course. Hooray for tabloids and the Internet! lol

I think what Manyoo really needs now is a true striker – an out-and-out predator who bangs in the goals up front. Rooney and Tevez are class, but they play too deep to fulfill the van Nistelrooy role – whom I think was one of the better strikers in Man Utd’s long history. What I heard is that Luis Fabiano and Daniel Alves are being lined up as transfer targets, but then again everything transfer-related nowadays are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Only time will tell I guess.

Wow, thats a pretty long rant about soccer and Manchester United. It’s part of the withdrawal symptoms I guess ^^; And now to continue creating my Man Utd all-time best XI on Winning Eleven..

spring anime season : start!

April 15, 2008 at 7:43 pm (anime, ramblings) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Now that another weekend is over and gone, it’s back to my lonely boring days at home in front of the computer. Singapore Pools hasn’t called me up ever since my training so I’ve decided to take the wait-and-see approach and be unemployed for the time being, at least until school starts next month.

Meanwhile, this break gives me a chance to just seat back and catch up on the latest season of anime which just started airing in Japan a week or so ago. I’m currently following up on a whole lot of brand new titles which I’ve not heard of for curiosity’s sake, but the most worth mentioning would be the two blockbusters which I’ve brought up before at the beginning of the year :

Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier

The latest iteration of the Macross franchise simply puts the recently concluded Gundam 00 to shame. Having top-class CG animation in addition to an excellent soundtrack done by the famous Yoko Kanno does not hurt either. I can’t say much about the plot with only 2 episodes aired so far, but the action seems to be coming along quite steadily with plenty of mecha action to boot.

Overall, it definitely meets my already high expectations set by the preview episode screened at the end of last year – the amount of quality it oozes in its production just sets it worlds apart from any of the other new series, with most likely the exception of..

Code Geass R2

Code Geass R2

It’s finally here!!!!!!!

Judging from my previous post, to say that I had high hopes for the second installment of Geass would be a gross understatement and I’m sure many other fans would feel the same way too. That said, I honestly felt a bit of a letdown when the credits of the first episode begin to roll last week.

The first season’s cliffhanger was left virtually unresolved and the plot played out like a rehash of the very first episode. It came across to me as slightly.. anti-climatic, especially so after impatiently waiting to see what happened to Lelouch and Suzaku’s epic showdown.

Episode 2 changed all of that however.

The gap was bridged. New mecha were rolled out. New factions & conspiracies abound. And last but not least, new Geass users! (I don’t think I spoiled anything did I? I tried my best ^^;) The action seems to be flying in thick and fast as if it was trying to make up for last week’s relatively laid-back attitude, while more questions are being fired about the plot than being answered at the moment. All these just leave viewers like myself craving for much much more XD

I think Mondays just can’t seem to come soon enough from now on ^^;

I didn’t actually finish playing Bioshock ever since I installed it late last year. I can’t exactly remember the reason why though because IIRC, I’d actually thought it was quite a beautiful piece of work for an FPS.

I guess I just lost interest halfway through – though in retrospect having COD4 on my HDD at the same time played a huge part as well ^^;

Still, it amazes me how the artist managed to put his own spin on the game in the picture above.

For one, the little sisters look just too.. cute.

If they looked like that in-game, one would have to think twice before harvesting them next time ^^;
